At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. 2008/09/08

Ultralight, Pilot lost in Crash on Chelan Municipal Airport Runway




What: Airborne Ultra-Lite (small kit plane)
Where: Chelan Municipal Airport north end of the west airport runway
When: 11 a.m. Saturday Sept 7 2008
Who: pilot of the plane, Charles E. Wiley, 74, of Gig Harbor.
Why:Pilot was found dead in the cockpit. It's not known if Wiley was taking off or attempting to land

2008/08/18

Beaverlodge Crash, One Fatality




What: small plane crash
Where: near Beaverlodge
When: Sunday afternoon
Who: Two passengers. One dead at the scene, one airlifted to Grande Prarie.
Why: RCMP received a call just after 5 p.m. of a plane that had lost contact with its control tower. At 7:30 Sunday night the search found the plane partially submerged in a remote marshy area south of Beaverlodge.

2008/08/16

Mount Baldy Crash and Fatality: update




What: Four-seat, single-engine Cessna 172 originating in Palo Alto. The plane was registered to Advantage Aviation Inc. of Palo Alto.
Where: In the mountains about two miles northwest of Incline Village near Lake Tahoe
When: Late Thursday night/early Friday morning. The body was found August 8.
Who: The pilot was Doyle John Borchers II who died of multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma,
Why: Crashed near the Mount Baldy peak. Visibility was obscured at the scene of the accident, hampering the initial investigation. The NTSB investigation is ongoing.

Washington Speed racer Dies in Plane Crash




What: experimental aircraft takeoff from the Richland, Wash.
Where: crashed on the runway
When: Thursday afternoon
Who: Pilot 72-year-old Charles Bigelow
Why: At 250 feet, the engine began to sputter and the aircraft crashed to the runway, killing the pilot

2008/08/14

1946 ER Coupe Crashes on Florida Ranch




What: 1946 ER Coupe fixed wing single-engine plane registered to Robert E. Hudson of Venice had taken off from a private ranch
Where: DeSoto County. near Sarasota.
When: Wednesday
Who: 72-year-old Robert Hudson pilot dead in the crash.
Why: Hudson was headed home to Venice, about 40 miles away, when he apparently hit a tree and crashed on the nearby ranch property.

Crash Kills Pilot




What: Multiple-engine, fixed wing plane registered to a Dublin, Ohio, company
Where: Field on Weaver Road near the Union County Airport
When: Thursday morning
Who: Shannon Stage, 33, was the pilot killed in the crash.
Why: Witnesses said the plane swooped, took a funny turn and started smoking before it crashed.

Ultralight Kills Pilot




What: two-seat, ultra-light took off from an airstrip in Eastbrook
Where: Plane hit the water in Taunton Bay, about 200 yards off Dwelley Point in Hancock County Maine
When: Crash reported at 7:27 p.m.
Who: Pilot 52-year-old Kenneth Tracy. Daughter, 8-year-old McKenzie Tracy, survived with serious injuries
Why: National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating

2008/07/25

Plane crashes after hitting quarry




What: Single-engine four-passenger 2004 Cozy Mark IV plane
Where: crashed near a limestone quarry in northwest Ellis County 10 miles southeast of Mansfield,
When: Thursday.
Who: Pilot/owner James J. Marshall (no passengers) No survivors. Marshall flew professionally for American Airlines.
Why: plane hit the top of the quarry in Midlothian and fell into a field, possibly attempting a crash landing.

2008/07/23

Ultra-light crashes killing pilot




What: Single seat Ultralight Aerolite 103 (wingspan of about 27 feet, weighs about 300 pounds) and travels 45-63 mph with a range of no more than 120 miles)
Where: Lynx National Golf Course just south of Sauk Centre Minnesota
When: 8 p.m. Monday
Who: 70-year-old Richard Alan Eidem
Why: Cause of the crash is still under investigation.

2008/07/14

Mitchell Georgia plane crash and fatality




What: cropduster
Where: a field near Pelham
When: 10:00 AM Saturday morning
Who: 62-year-old Gifford Flynt
Why: his crop duster crashed in Fred B. Hand's pecan field just off Highway 93. Cause unknown. Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating

2008/06/28

Helicopter Crash: Guatemala



What: Departing from Guatemala City bound for the northern jungle region of Peten
Where: north of the Guatemalan capital, near the small town of Senahu
When:
Who: All four people aboard the aircraft were killed, including Interior Minister Vinicio Gomez, deputy interior minister, Edgar Umana, the plane's pilot and co-pilot.
Why:Bad weather

Acroduster TOO Crash, 1 fatality




What: Acroduster TOO: Experimental byplane stunt plane
Where: From Panama city
When: June 16, 2008 1:00 pm
Who: Pilot Kevin Gorham (killed) told the passenger Craig Ellis to parachute out.
Why: Passenger said, "Something in the controls ... the rudder or the stick ... got screwed up"
News report said "a malfunction with the engine."

Carrolton Ohio Crash




What: two-seat Helton Lark 95
Where: WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio
When: Tuesday morning 10:30 AM
Who: killed pilot Leonard Notek; passenger Nikki Romerojust removed to hospital. The pilot was employed by Frontier Airlines.
Why: Struck a utility pole and cartwheeled into the ground.

Cargo Crash: Barnstable




What: DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter fixed-wing airplane; Wiggins Airways Flight 6601
Where: Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis
When: June 18 10:00 AM
Who: Pilot was killed
Why: Under investigation

2008/06/17

Biplane Crash near Bay County International Airport




What: two-seater SA750
Where: After leaving Bay County International Airport, crash landed in a tree in the heavily wooded area, about one mile from Morar Road.
When: Monday afternoon
Who: Pilot, Kevin Gorham died in the crash, after directing his passenger Craig Ellis to use a parachute.
Why: unspecified problems which caused the biplane began to go into a spin.
