A Note to Our Readers

Dear Readers,
We make a special effort here to record the facts as we receive them. At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. "...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for..." us all.

FAA Recertifies Avianca´s Maintenance Facilities

By Héctor Héreter
We were just received a press release from Bogotá, Colombia announcing that Avianca’s Maintenance facilities, were re-certified this week by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. We usually don’t publish press releases first hand, but in the case of Avianca we make an exception because in one of the few success stories in the Latin American commercial aviation world, plagued with carriers with very questionable safety operations.
This major state-of-the-art facility, located in El Dorado International Airport, allows Avianca Services personnel to perform maintenance procedures for high pressure fluid cylinders and other overhauling for a large variety of commercial airplanes.
Avianca Services, a division of Avianca Airlines, was created in 2002 and provides maintenance services for commercial and regional aircraft types such as Boeing 737, Boeing 757, ATR and Embraer Regional Jets. Among Avianca Services’ costumers are Iberia, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Mexicana, Varig, LanChile, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Grupo Taca y Copa Airlines; and cargo carries DHL and FedEX
“Avianca is the only Colombian Airline company with this kind of endorsement from the FAA, and strives itself to be the spearhead of the Latin American aviation maintenance service provider”, said Favio Villegas, Avianca´s CEO. “Our facilities strategically located and our in-house-state of the art equipment is an excellent option for airlines around the Americas, either South or North.”
Besides FAA’s certification, Avianca holds accreditation from the European Aviation Safety Agency,(EASA) and the Colombian Commercial Aeronautical Administration.
