Four Britons working in the tourist trade were missing in Brazil last night after their small plane disappeared just minutes before it was due to land in the north-west of the country.
The Foreign Office confirmed that Alan Kempson, Sean Woodall, Ricky Every and Nigel Hodges were on board a twin-engined Cessna 310 operated by Aero Star, a charter firm based in Bahia province, north of Rio de Janeiro. They are believed to have been visiting hotels and apartments in the area.
Aero Star business manager Ellen Duarte said the weather had been good and the pilots had not reported any problems.
Four aircraft carried out a coastal search for the plane, which disappeared 15 miles from its destination, Ilhéus. The Foreign Office said staff from the British consulate had been sent to Ilhéus to provide assistance.
