Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. Loaded Fokker Loses Tires on Nigerian Runway


What: Kano bound aircraft, a Fokker 100 with tail number 5NCEO from Lagos
Where: taxiing on the Murtala Mohammed Airport runway
When: 8.30pm
Who: carrying about 108 passengers
Why: The plane lost two rear tires while taxiing and derailed to the surrounding field. The airline refunded money to some of them while the others were ferried to their destination. Some affected passengers were accommodated in a hotel in Ikeja, and others were checked into Aero Contractors aircraft bound for Abuja.

NCAA engineers were studying the plane

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has held a closed door meeting with the management of IRS Airlines over the incident.
