Virgin Atlantic B744 Emergency Landing




What: Virgin Atlantic B744 registration G-VLIP flight VS29 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Bridgetown (Barbados)
Where: Gatwick,EN
When: Aug 23rd 2008 -40 minutes after departure
Who: 320 passengers and 15 crew
Why: After experiencing unspecified technical problems, the plane dumped fuel and return to Gatwick. Witnesses report that the outer left engine (1) flamed out and was shut down; and/or there was a bird strike. Additionally, the landing gear appeared to be stuck in the down position. Virgin Airlines denies the incident is an emergency.
