Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. Virgin Atlantic B744 Emergency Landing




What: Virgin Atlantic B744 registration G-VLIP flight VS29 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Bridgetown (Barbados)
Where: Gatwick,EN
When: Aug 23rd 2008 -40 minutes after departure
Who: 320 passengers and 15 crew
Why: After experiencing unspecified technical problems, the plane dumped fuel and return to Gatwick. Witnesses report that the outer left engine (1) flamed out and was shut down; and/or there was a bird strike. Additionally, the landing gear appeared to be stuck in the down position. Virgin Airlines denies the incident is an emergency.
