A Note to Our Readers

Dear Readers,
We make a special effort here to record the facts as we receive them. At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. "...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for..." us all.

Emergency: Northwest flight 332

What: Northwest flight 332 B-757 flying from Los Angeles to Detroit
Where: Las Vegas
When: Monday May 12 2008 Time: 1610
Who:
Why: 3-foot-by 2-foot section of the wing flew off and struck the plane's horizontal stabilizer. Possibly related to hydraulics. But in the last ten years, the NTSB only investigated one other similar in-flight incident on a US Airways plane. Following that incident, US Airways inspected the wing panels on all of their 757s and found similar issues. The FAA says the wing panel fastening system on the 757 was redesigned in the1980s after repeated problems.
