A Note to Our Readers

Dear Readers,
We make a special effort here to record the facts as we receive them. At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. "...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for..." us all.

Zest Crashes Barriers in Caticlan

What: ZEST Xian MA60 Aircraft Flight 865 en route from Manila to Caticlan
Where: undershot the Caticlan airport runway, Phillipines
When: Sunday Morning 11 JAN 2009
Who: 22 adults, 2 children, 1 crew aboard.
Injured: Though initial reports indicated two children and one crew member were injured, fifteen were taken to the Baptist hospital in Caticlan.
Why: According to reportage (which may be obscured due to mistranslation) strong winds caused the aircraft's landing gear to "explode." (explode?) The plane undershot landing on runway 06, hit an airport barrier. The plane's nose, landing gears and propellers were damaged. The runway was then closed.

The plane reportedly "veered to crash into the airport's passenger lounge" but that has not been confirmed. The injured included at least one ground crew member.
