A Note to Our Readers

Dear Readers,
We make a special effort here to record the facts as we receive them. At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. "...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for..." us all.

Vancouver Victims remembered

The memorial service for those killed in the Vancouver Island plane crash included a four-plane fly over by four Grumman Goose amphibious aircraft--the same type the victims died in. The memorial was held Tuesday night in a Pacific Coast Airlines hangar in Port Hardy. Pilot Simon Lawrence and 4 Seaspan International Ltd employees died Sunday morning.

What: Pacific Coastal Airlines Grumman Goose G21A amphibious plane on a 30-minute flight between Port Hardy and Chamiss Bay
Where: Northern Vancouver Island. The plane went down on a hillside dense with foliage outside Port Hardy
When: August 03, 2008 ten minutes after take-off. Rescue crews finally spotted the wreckage around 4:30 p.m.
Who: Five died; There were two survivors, one injured, one not.
Why: The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is suggested that engine stall caused the crash.

Both surviving men were among a crew of six workers with Seaspan International headed to Chamiss Bay to load logs onto barges. The pilot was employed by Pacific Coastal Airlines
