A Note to Our Readers

We make a special effort here to record the facts as we receive them. At times, there may be error but we do try to use our best judgement at the time of posting, and will be glad to amend any details which are proved incorrect. Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. Emergency Landing: McGhee-Tyson Airport



What: The US Airways flight out of DC en route to Nashville; twin-engine Bombardier CRJ200 regional jet; PSA Flight 2489
Where: McGhee-Tyson Airport, Knoxville
When: 3:20 p.m. Monday May 5
Who: 40 passengers on board, 3 crew
Why: an "Alert 2." That is when "an aircraft is experiencing a possible major problem, such as faulty landing gear or hydraulic failure. Passengers completed the last 163 miles of their trip by bus.
