Furthermore, even though we do not here discuss the human cost, we realize that losing anyone in an air accident is insurmountable tragedy to individuals, families and communities. We do extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whose loss we record here. Aussie GA-8 Forced Landing



What: Kakadu Air Gippsland GA-8
Where: near Cooinda Australia (Northern Territory)
When: 3pm on Tuesday
Who: Pilot suffers minor injuries.
Why:Engine failure forces landing. Suspected engine failure related to faulty fuel systems.

Last Sunday 5 people walked away from a Barrier Air charter plane that experienced engine failure at 2500 feet and crashed when trying to land on Whitewood Rd, Howard Springs, in Darwin's rural area.

Australia Emergency Landing



What: Piper Saratoga
Where: Moorabbin airport, Melbourne
When: September 05, 2008 12:45
Who: The two pilots were uninjured
Why: One of the plane’s wheels would not lock down. The pilots were forced into an emergency landing

Yak 52 Crashes; pilot and passenger lost




What: Russian-built Yak-52 stunt plane flying from Archerfield Airport on Brisbane's southside
Where: off South Stradbroke Island, Jumpinpin Australia in south-east Queensland. Wreckage was found after a significant search in about 20 metres of water
When: Sunday Aug 31 12.30pm AEST
Who: veteran pilot Barry Hempel and 20 year old passenger. The pilot and passenger are missing.
Why: no reasons listed; crash is under investigation

2008/08/28

Australian Plane Collision, One Fatality






What: Light aircraft collision between a Piper Warrior and a Cessna 150
Where: Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne
When: Aug 27, 2008
Who: Twenty-four-year-old trainee pilot Akash Ananth, an Indian national colliding with another light plane over Cheltenham. The other pilot and trainee made it back to the airport to land safely.
Why: Under investigation

2008/06/20

Qantas Emergency Landing




What: Qantas plane bound for Cairns; QantasLink Dash-8 aircraft operating as QF2495, 72-seat turbo-prop
Where: diverted to Weipa, on Cape York
When: 12.10pm (AEST
Who: 60 passengers.
Why:Precautionary in-flight shutdown of the aircraft's number two engine (right-side engine), in response to a cockpit warning. The engine stopped about 10 minutes after take-off. Front landing gear may have been damaged on landing. The passengers disembarked, leaving the plane stuck halfway down the runway.
